The speaker is Jaime Escalante, the mathematics teacher whose life inspired the movie "Stand and Deliver."

Escalante, whose East Los Angeles teaching career was depicted in the popular 1988 movie, addresses undergraduate candidates for degrees at the 1 p.m convocation on May 4 at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center. He will receive an honorary doctor of humanities.
